Corporates
Emerging and frontier markets can pose particular challenges. In addition to companies’ existing stakeholders, these markets necessitate consideration of the value of their social license in the host country, the political environment, geopolitical drivers, relationships with civil society and the media landscape.
Host countries can weaponise their legal and media control against companies – through measures such as adverse tax changes, unsubstantiated corruption charges or equity grabs. Head office governments are also taking increased interest in companies’ overseas activity, whilst multilateral actors such as NGOs turn up the pressure to act.
In a rapidly changing media and stakeholder environment, the risk and reward of any action is amplified. Those with adverse interests can take advantage of this environment to companies’ detriment. If left unchecked, campaigns waged by these actors can create long-lasting damage and undo even the strongest, positive legacies. Marlow is uniquely placed to understand these challenges and help clients navigate these waters.
At the international level, we help clients build an understanding of the potential allies they need within key international governments and diplomatic circles, as well as within international think tanks and thought leaders who influence senior government officials and the media.
At the domestic level, we help clients leverage this international support to achieve impactful results – always taking into account a country’s unique political landscape and cultural environment.
We have a very strong track record in the extractives sector in addition to significant experience supporting other corporates, private equity, sovereign wealth, hedge funds and other vehicles holding assets or investments which are politically exposed to (a) protect their assets/investments and (b) improve their value over the investment lifecycle.

Governments
Marlow helps sovereign nations or parastatal companies with foreign policy communications, public policy, legislative drafting, coalition building and international partnerships.
In the new era of political realignment and in light of the energy transition, we help governments in need of assistance with international reputation building, advocacy, public affairs and campaigning.
For many nation states, the 2020s have presented an additional set of challenges. Governments are grappling with slow post-COVID recovery, a major war in Europe, mounting tensions in the Middle East, the growing climate crisis, and meteoric advances in artificial intelligence. All of this is happening against the backdrop of a rapidly changing media and stakeholder environment, which amplifies the risk and reward of any action taken.
Those with adverse interests are increasingly taking advantage of the current environment to the detriment of democratically elected governments. If left unchecked, campaigns waged by these actors can create long-lasting damage and undo the positive legacies built by nation states and leaders.
Marlow is uniquely placed to understand the challenges governments face and to help them navigate these ever-changing waters.

Sovereign wealth & institutional investment funds
Marlow helps sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) and institutional investment funds develop robust risk management strategies, stay abreast of geopolitical developments, and remain flexible in their investment approaches.
Funds must contend with political instability, regulatory upheaval, economic sanctions, currency risk, and volatile global trade dynamics—all of which pose a direct threat to the value and security of their assets. At the same time, they must balance institutional financial objectives with the geopolitical interests of their home countries. In some cases, the two do not go hand in hand.
Marlow understands this unique challenge. Our approach is tailored to the specific needs and sensitivities of SWFs and institutional funds, and we provide practical advice throughout the investment lifecycle.

Law firms & barristers’ chambers
Marlow provides support to law firms and chambers in circumstances where black-letter legal advice isn’t enough to resolve a client’s problem.
Our Managing Director, Simon Wolfe, has a background in international dispute resolution, lobbying, anti-corruption, human rights, and corporate law. Prior to founding Marlow Global, Simon worked at a geopolitically focused law firm in London and prior to that, he was the Head of Legal for an international NGO focused on anti-corruption and freedom of speech. In this role, he helped to write, pass, and contribute to the creation and maintenance of laws in countries all over the world.
In addition, we work with law firms to hone their own company communications and amplify the narratives of their clients when a multiple-front approach is needed.
We are familiar with complex legal landscapes and sensitivities, with extensive experience working on high-stakes litigation, reputation management, and client crises.
